Actual weight versus volumetric weight

Carriers may charge for scale weight or the space a parcel occupies, whichever is greater. Shoes, boxes and padded goods can therefore cost more than their scale weight suggests. Estimated warehouse values may change after final packing.

Build a sensible parcel

Combine items that can be protected together. Removing unnecessary retail packaging may reduce volume, while fragile products may need reinforcement. Extremely large parcels can reduce route choices and concentrate risk, so splitting a haul can sometimes be reasonable.

Compare routes consistently

• Check whether the route accepts every product category in the parcel.
• Compare tracking coverage, expected transit time and compensation limits.
• Review remote-area charges, maximum dimensions and billable-weight rules.
• Use current information shown by the agent; routes and prices change.

Customs, declarations and insurance

The recipient is responsible for following destination import rules. Describe items accurately and use the agent’s current declaration guidance. Insurance can limit financial exposure, but exclusions and evidence requirements matter, so read the terms rather than assuming every delay or loss is covered.

After dispatch

Keep the parcel number, invoice and packing information. Tracking may pause between export and local-carrier scans. Contact support when movement exceeds the route’s normal guidance, not merely because one scan is delayed.
